The dumbing down of America is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30-second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance.”
This is one of those moments when the sensation of hope makes my blood boil and I feel energy from a source that is bottomless. I found this quote while listening to my Audio Book The Demon-Haunted World - Science as a Candle in the Dark by Carl Segan.
How can so many artists and creators just participate in this ” dumbing down of America”! Look at what your putting out! Consider beyond the present day when you make your work, Consider the impact your work has on people! on your community! Are you making anyone think? Has Anyone grown or considered things in a new way from your work? Or was it all just to satisfy your own selfish desires of fame and wealth. I know a couple of artist like this. Why do those with the loudest voices have nothing to say past “Just trying to keep it positive” And why do the same people have some of the most ever present hatreds and biases? These same “artists” use people (interns) for there own gain, all while giving little to no respect or credit to their help (Not a personal issue I cant even remember the last time I interned)
The answer to all these questions is simple. They are merely repeating what was done to them as interns or youth, this is also the easiest way to achieve the commonly prescribed answer to life that is ever present in all media. Money and Status.
If you are these things, change. Think about the longevity of the spices, and ask yourself if this is type of world you want your kids growing up in? Consider yourself less and you will make more I swear.
